- 1. Why you chose the place;
I chose this place because I felt more pulled to it compared to the other places when I was looking for my place. Something that pulled me to the OM walkway was how calm and relaxing it felt when I first sat there; compared to other places on campus there weren’t people everywhere all the time, but it wasn’t super quiet either, which I didn’t mind at all.
- 2. What you have enjoyed about connecting with it;
I enjoyed taking the time to get to know the place and pay more attention to detail in this place. Later into the project was when I really started to be able to connect and notice more about the area, which was really exciting. I noticed how the place felt brighter and happier when the sun was out, the smell of soil while walking through, several birds, and the different trees that sit in this place.
- 3. Which course theme/term idea you found easiest to connect to it and what that connection was;
The course theme I found easiest to connect to was chapter 6 interpreting places and landscapes. I briefly wrote on the experience of the environment of this place. The place itself is an experience because it is visually appealing and pulling. Connected to the experience of the environment, I mentioned how this place was shaped by people majorly. The way the place is laid out is specifically shaped for the benefit of the people that walk through it, for example the pathways, where the trees are planted, the flags, and the light posts. This all contributes to how we interpret the place.
- 4. One thing you are grateful to your place about;
I am grateful to my place for the opportunity to challenge myself to connect on a deeper or more descriptive level in ways I haven’t thought about before. This place gave me more of an open mind to what it could mean to be grateful in terms of the place; it didn’t always have to be doing something, it could have been as simple as asking questions or putting deeper thought into it.
- 5. One reason that your place might feel grateful for you.
A reason my place might be grateful for me, I think would be the time and attention I put towards this place. It wasn’t always easy to come up with things I could do in the place, so I spent most of my time paying more attention to detail in the area itself like the trees, grass, weather, birds, people, etc.
