Why did I choose this location? I chose this spot on the TRU campus because it is a part of my every day path to get to classes, meaning it was a very familiar spot. I recognised this spot as a beautiful space to unwind from the stress of classes, and just relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Kamloops and the TRU campus.
What have I enjoyed while visiting this space? I really enjoyed the views at this space, as it let me see the whole north shore of the city and appreciate this place that we live in. I also enjoyed getting to see different kinds of wildlife at this place, as it helped me realize that animals also see this as a safe space to go to. I really enjoyed using this place as a calming spot to do my homework while enjoying the sun and outdoors.
What course theme did I connect with most? I was able to connect with the idea of ecological footprint from chapter 4 (People and nature). I found that I was able to connect with this idea the most because I noticed that some places on campus are often very polluted with cars and/or litter from humans, and this spot was not. This spot was a place where I could just connect with nature without worrying about the ecological impacts of the surrounding area on this place. I made sure to always be aware of my impact on this spot by leaving it exactly how I found it and not leaving any garbage.
One reason I am grateful for this spot? I am very grateful that I chose this spot for my connecting with place assignments because it allows me to feel very connected to the city of Kamloops. I am able to see so much of the city, and it makes me feel very grateful that I have an opportunity to live in such a beautiful place. I feel grateful that this place offers me a relaxing space to enjoy the beautiful nature and see things that I may not have noticed before such as certain plants and animals.
Why might my place feel grateful for me? As mentioned above, I made sure to always be very courteous of my ecological footprint, and leave the space exactly as I found it. I made sure to always pick up litter that I saw, even if it was not mine, as I wanted this to be a safe and clean environment that other students could enjoy as much as I did. I made sure to take time to enjoy the wildlife and plants at this spot, and appreciate the beauty of this spot specifically.
